A photographic documentary series about local hairdressers in Amsterdam who facilitate social connection inside their shops and in the neighbourhood.
Goal
With "ATLAS" we not only want to pay a visual tribute to the hairdressers of Amsterdam, but also create a platform for connection, dialogue and understanding. The project aims to celebrate small business owners and highlight their important role in the local community as a social glue in a changing time of gentrification and polarization.

Main activities
Mapping and portraying those unique personalities and stories. Through photography, moving images and narrative elements, "ATLAS" will capture the diversity of barbershops in Amsterdam, with a focus on classic businesses that have been around for a while. The interior of each business serves as a window into its spirit, where the identity of the hairdresser and the neighborhood comes to life.
