Lightweight beacons and quickly deployable towers made of bamboo poles and cables standing 8m high which have been used to block roads and access ways during civil disobedience actions in the climate justice movement

Goal

The goal of the project: to develop cheap agile tools to amplify people power, by creating a design that can be fabricated by activists from normal backgrounds without access to specialist tools or facilities. These tools allow the same number of activists to occupy a greater fraction of the state's coercive power than traditional methods of disobedience, such as sitting in the road. Many fiendishly sophisticated technologies have been created for violence; we seek to balance the field somewhat with some sophisticated technology for non-violent resistance.

The audience is the general public viewing media coverage of civil disobedience actions.

Main activities

The audience is reached through disruptive acts of civil disobedience which cannot be ignored.

Any and all Extinction Rebellion activists who build these structures designed by Julian Maynard Smith and Morgan Trowland.
