The dimensions most relevant to this project are: learning
Photographer Jeroen Toirkens & journalist Jelle Brandt Corstius
Trees remove our carbon emissions from of the atmosphere, and are thus a key weapon in our fight against climate change. With the impact of climate change being seen and felt increasingly clearly, it is important that the stories of the forests are heard to let people worry and care for them. A forest is much more than its trees. It’s an interconnected system that cannot be replaced easily when we lose it.
People who don’t live in / don’t get to access the Boreal zone
Raise awareness on the beauty, magnitude and importance of the Boreal zone. As an entity with inherent worth, as provider for local livelihoods and as safe guarder for our planet
“It’s not certain that the Boreal zone will remain this way. That’s why we felt it was important to not only do this, but also do it now.”
Jelle Brandt Corstius

Borealis tells stories of the happenings in the Boreal zone that otherwise wouldn’t reach us. We learn about the diversity of activities, the vastness of the forest and the precarity of it all.
